Welcome to the car show. This is a picture of Jim's 1970 Dodge Challenger and his brother's 1967 Plymouth GTX ...two classic Mopar Muscles! They get better care than most pets. This image was captured at the Cruise-In at Annabelle's, a '50s diner in Mentor, Ohio. It's a neat "drive your cool car here" place.

Below is a (not comprehensive) list of car show/swap meet/events "Mostly Mopar." If you'd like us to list one, or have additional or different information about one of these, send a message to us at Michele@ang.org  and we may list it (no guarantees...). Disclaimer: we put together this list as best we could, from various sources--fliers in the mail and at car shows, and word of mouth if we must. It is accurate as far as we know, but space is limited; we abbreviate and condense. And we take no responsibility for your driving your baby out to an unconfirmed show.

    Let's talk car shows:
On July 11-13, we attended 1997's Chryslers at Carlisle (picture is the showfield).  As usual, it was a fantastic weekend for those hardy souls braving the blazing sun and soaring temperatures. The show cars were, as usual, drop-dead gorgeous (especially the newly-added class of "survivors"--unrestored beauties in all their original glory). The car corral was unfairly tempting--it was difficult not to buy another car(s)! Of course, any Mopar part in the known world could be had if you could just find the right vendor (check out the web site below, for one). The car show takes over this little town--cool cars are everwhere. You could get eyestrain just driving to dinner or pulling into any motel's parking lot. Even though we stayed until the bitter end, we once again did not win the giveaway car--it sure would have been fun to drive home the '67 Dodge Coronet 440 that was this year's offering. Oh, well, there's always next year...
     ••••

On Saturday June 21, we  participated in the Mayfield Village Cruise In "97" --and what an event it was. As those of you who have attended know, this is not a judged show; there are no trophies or awards (except for a souvenir miniature license plate you get when "cruising the oval"). What was there again this year was a fun evening of music, food and cool cars. In addition to the Elvis impersonator at the gazebo, there were three live bands ...there was more to see than you could! Heinen's did a knock-out barbeque with ribs, chicken, hot dogs, corn-on-the-cob and all the trimmings. Pizzazz offered some tasty sausage subs and cold, hard pizza--but their restaurant across the street was open where you could get their usual delicious-and-fresh meals. Migelito's was set up in their parking lot, where they provided an unending supply of fresh-from-the-oven variety pizzas, sausage subs and the best lemon ice to be had this side of Murray Hill (where they get it from!). Austin's Smokin' Steak House generated some mouth-watering aromas, but since our car was at Heinen's we ran out of room before we got there!

This has got to be THE premier family-fun car event of the season. Kudos to the citizens, merchants and officials of Mayfield Village for providing this wonderful time. While it is solid fun for participants, it involves major planning and disruption for people who regularly live and work there. They closed off parts of a main thoroughfare for the cruising oval, and assigned what seemed like dozens of police officers for traffic and crowd safety work. Providing a safe, fun event for hundreds of classic cars and thousands of spectators must be a major undertaking; and they do it very well, year after year!

On Saturday June 14, 1997, we entered the First Invitational Team Mopar Show at the new Chrysler Corp. Cleveland Parts Distribution Center in Streetsboro, Ohio. It was quite a show. While the judging was a bit disappointing (only 5 awards, haphazardly announced late in the day after cars had begun to drift away), hundreds of beautiful cars made appearances here. The parts dist. center services dealers in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New York--and we saw gorgeous cars from all those states!

Chrysler Corp. did their dealer proud, sending a Prowler, a Sidewinder Dakota, a Viper Coupe, and an LHX for us all to drool over and crave. Not to mention the traveling power show in the Mopar trailer where we could see the "new" hemi engines and talk to factory reps.

We couldn't have asked for much better weather; the day was hot and sunny, with a cool breeze to encourage us to walk (and walk, and walk...) around to see all the beauties. There were "factory tours," where we were welcome to wander through the facility. Kids (and some adults!) were impressed with the parts packaging machine--a factory rep allowed them to choose candy pieces and press a button to "package" them in Mopar wrapping. But it was difficult to tear ourselves away from the main attractions ...cars, cars, cars!

This is our 1971 Chrysler Newport.  While it's not as cool as the  muscle cars pictured at the top of the page, it's a great old car--all original--with an interior as nice as new!
